Coronavirus Update

The Durst Organization is open for business and we are adapting and managing in this new environment. Many of us are working remotely and our on-site staff are at our buildings keeping people healthy and safe.

Here are recommendations from the NYC Health Department for best practices to follow during this time. »

The Helena

The Helena holds the distinction of being the first voluntary LEED Gold residential tower in New York City. One of the building’s most innovative environmental features is the blackwater recycling system that reclaims about 43,000 gallons of wastewater each day.

Other green features of The Helena include:

  • Expansive glass walls that maximize natural light
  • Building materials include recycled, renewable, and locally sourced material
  • Solar panels provide supplemental energy
  • EnergyStar–rated appliances reduce energy consumption
  • Custom high-performance, low-e-coated thermopane windows
  • At least 50% of the building’s purchased energy is wind-generated
  • Waste heat provides all of the building’s hot water needs
  • Cogeneration micro-turbines power mechanical equipment and lighting
